Entry from: Naples, Italy Entry Title: "Rome day 3 and the road to Naples" Entry: "So this was my last day in Rome. I woke up early and decided to check my bags at the hostel desk (since it was free there and you have to pay at the train station) and come back for them before leaving for Naples in afternoon. I had seen many of the things I had wanted to see in Rome over the last two days. I really did pack it in! It helps too that it gets light at about 5:30 am and stays light until almost 10 pm. This is extra nice since I am a female traveling alone. I really haven't felt that uncomfortable at any point on the trip though. So I decided to head back over the Vatican City, for a few more photos and then over to the Castel Sant' Angelo. Castel Sant' Angelo was constructed around 139 AD. Its a pretty interesting place. It served many purposes including being a refuge for threatened popes during war or battles. Supposedly the Archangel Michael also appeared over the Castel at one point to signal the end of a plague. I also took a stroll across the famous Pont Sant' Angelo that was alos built by Hadrian as a regal entrance to the Castel Sant' Angelo. The bridge is lined with statues that are copies of Bernini's orginals. It is pretty impressive. I was delighted to find a lot of artisits selling ...
